Garage door repair in Fremont
Fremont isn't one place, and treating it as one is how a garage door quote goes wrong. Five towns merged into it in January 1956, it covers about 78 square miles, and it's physically larger than San Francisco. Worth knowing locally
The Hayward Fault crosses Fremont's Central Park, and the creep is measurable rather than theoretical. The creepmeter on Osgood Road averaged 6.6 millimeters a year between 1993 and 2009, and you can see the result in the cracked pavement at Fremont BART. Over decades that slow movement, plus the settling that comes with the bay mud under the western flatland, is enough to pull a garage opening slightly out of square.
What we expect to find
An out-of-square opening is the failure people misdiagnose most often near the Mission Boulevard corridor. The door binds, drags on one side, or won't seal along the bottom, and it gets blamed on the door or the opener. Often it's the frame. That's a different repair, and forcing the opener against it is what turns a $200 job into a $600 one.
Getting to Fremont
Centerville is the closest part of Fremont to us at about 2.2 road miles, four or five minutes when the roads are clear. Mission San Jose is the far corner: six miles in a straight line turns into somewhere between 9.3 and 11 road miles depending on which route you take, and the two mapping engines we checked disagreed with each other, so we quote it as a range. Paseo Padre Parkway is the spine we use most, and Thornton Avenue runs east from Newark into Fremont. One correction worth making, because it's on other people's sites: State Route 84 no longer runs on Fremont's surface streets. The state handed Thornton, Fremont Boulevard, Peralta and Mowry back to the City of Fremont in October 2019.
